Volvo China Junior Championship, the premier junior golf tournament in China, held a news conference in August, 2006. Representatives from sponsor, China Golf Association, from supporting sponsors, VOLVO and Richtone Worldwide Limited, and from organizers, China Prosperity Culture Media Co. and Beijing CBD International Golf Club met media and announced that ‘Volvo China Junior Championship’ will be held from October 2nd to 5th, 2006 at Beijing CBD International Golf Club.
The Championship will follow the spirit of promoting golf and building a world class tournament in China. Different from the 2005 Championship, 2006 Championship will reduce the total group numbers from six to four, two for men and two for women. One group will consist of players who are 10 -13 and another group will consist of players who are 14 -17. Qualified participants are those who are among the top eight in 2006 CGA’s junior ranking and/or those who are invited by the Championship committee.
One significant change made in this tournament is switching from Stroke Play to Match Play to allow junior players gaining more field experience. Participants will play through two 18 hole games and a 36-hole final to determine the Champions in different age groups.
Following the principles of the previous Championship, winners of the 14-17 age groups will be invited to play in the 2007 Volvo China Open Pro-Am.
China Golf Association strives to promote junior golf tournaments in China. ‘2006 Volvo China Junior Championship’ is an important part of CGA’s long term strategy. The successful debut in 2005 sponsored by CGA set up a good example of world class golf tournament in China and gained warm responses.
The championship has the full support from ‘Volvo China Open’ and its promoting company Richtone Worldwide Ltd. that organized twelve Volvo China Open and witnessed the history of Chinese professional golf development. With the strong commitment from the two organizations, 2006 Volvo China Junior Championship will become another significant mark in Chinese golf history.
This year the championship has received a further boost to its prestige with the news that for the first time, the world-famous watch brand Rolex have joined as a major partner. "We're delighted," said Alistair Polson, Executive Director of Richtone Worldwide, "Rolex is already a major partner of China's Open Golf Championship, the Volvo China Open, and now it's a very encouraging sign for the future of junior golf in China to see such a top international brand extend its support to the country's junior golf championship." As a global golf sponsor, Rolex realize the importance of not only supporting professional golf events, but also reaching out to the community via supporting junior golf programs.
Beijing CBD International Golf Club has made adequate preparations for the championship. As a championship class golf course located in the Beijing area, CBD International Golf Club is the only TPC (Tournament Player Course) course in Asia designed by a world's top designer Brit
Stenson. The 2008 Volvo China Open will be held in this course.
The three leading media in China golf industry, Golf Magazine, Golf Week and Oriental Golf, will have a full coverage on the Championship. The tournament will enjoy the broadest publicity during the event. ‘Golf Magazine’, ‘Golf Week’ ‘Oriental Golf’ and other media will keep promoting the Championship by providing in depth professional coverage.
With the consecutive success of the Championship, Chinese junior players will have more opportunities to participate in high standard golf tournaments. Volvo China Junior Championship will keep supplying fresh talented players for golf development in China. |
